The most useful thing to understand before you arrive is that two quite different things may be sitting in the same box. Most precious metal that comes across the counter is worth its metal content — that is the honest answer for worn sterling, broken jewelry and common-date silver coinage. But some pieces are worth considerably more to a collector than the metal in them, and those need identifying before anything is weighed.
We sort those out first, every time, and tell you when something is worth more elsewhere than it is worth to us.

Common questions
- Can I sell silver here as well as gold?
- Yes. We buy silver coins, including 90% silver coins, silver bars and silver rounds, and sterling silver flatware and hollowware, and all of it is tested the same way gold is. Silver-plated pieces are the exception — they carry almost no silver, and we will tell you if that is what you have before anything else happens.
- How much will I get if I sell my gold or silver?
- That depends on what it is, and we do not publish what we pay — it moves with the spot price of gold and silver throughout the day, so any per-ounce or per-gram number printed here would be out of date by the time you read it. Most gold and silver is worth its melt value, which comes down to its weight and its purity. Some pieces are worth more to a collector than as metal, and gold-plated or silver-plated pieces are worth almost nothing. We test everything in front of you and walk through how the offer was reached, item by item.
- Do you buy 14 karat gold and white gold?
- Yes. We buy 10 karat, 14 karat, 18 karat and 22 or 24 karat gold, in yellow or white. White gold is karat gold alloyed with white metals, and it is tested and weighed the same way. Each karat is weighed separately, and every piece is tested whatever its stamp says.
- What is the best way to sell silver?
- Make sure it is sorted before anything is weighed — sterling separated from silver plate, and coins or pieces that may be worth more to a collector set aside from the melt. Do not clean or polish any of it first. We do that sorting on the counter in front of you, and explain how the offer was reached, piece by piece.
- What is the best way to sell bullion?
- It is straightforward. Bring photo ID, the bullion itself, and any certificates, assay cards or original packaging you have. Bullion is bought for its metal content, so what matters is what it is, its weight and its purity, and we verify all of that on the counter in front of you before making an offer.
- Do you pay cash for gold and silver?
- Yes. If you accept an offer you are paid the same day, in cash or by wire. There is no obligation to accept, and no fee if you decline.
- Are you a pawn shop?
- No. We deal only in precious metals and coins, and we buy outright — we do not make loans against anything you bring in.
- Do you buy gold coins and gold bars?
- Yes. Bullion coins such as Krugerrands, American Gold Eagles and Maple Leafs, and gold bars, are bought for their metal content. Older and scarcer gold coins can be worth more to a collector than as gold, and we check for that before anything is weighed.
- Do I need to make an appointment, or do you take walk-ins?
- We take walk-ins. You are welcome to come in during opening hours with no appointment, though if you make an appointment we can set aside proper time for a larger collection.
- What do I need to bring?
- Government-issued photo ID, and the items themselves. New Jersey requires identification for precious metals transactions and we cannot complete a purchase without it.
- Should I clean anything first?
- No. Cleaning a collectable coin can remove a significant part of its value to a collector, and the damage cannot be undone.
- Is there a fee if I decline?
- No. Testing and valuation are free, and there is no obligation to sell.
