About Westampton Township

Westampton was incorporated as a township in 1850, carved from what was then Northampton Township and is known today as Mount Holly Township. Its own territory was reduced three decades later when Eastampton Township broke away in 1880. The name records that history in miniature: it described the township’s original position in the western part of Northampton.

The township is home to the National Weather Service forecast office that serves the greater Philadelphia region, and it also takes in the unincorporated places of Rancocas, Timbuctoo and Woodlane, with the northern end of Rancocas State Park lying within its borders — a landscape of small, separately named hamlets and single civic institutions rather than one consolidated town center.
